Working on quick sketching in painter. This one was about 20 minutes. Took longer to find a good photo for the background then to draw the sumbitch’. Saw a really cool steampunk Stormtrooper illustration today plus my favorite Sleepytime Gorilla Museum song did it too, so I decided to try my hand at the style, though very slight incarnation of it. Making this quick I didn’t have time to add alot of doohickies. Also used it as a chance to do a vector style color job on it. Iffy about it.
A few months ago I mentioned I was selling some prints that I had made in small numbers. While I haven’t put them up for sale yet due to my scanner situation, I’d like to take the time to mention that because I think it’s a cool idea I will make more prints. My girlfriend has also mentioned in passing she was thinking of doing some too. Though this may be postponed due to her new job and little personal time.
As of right now I will be making prints available initially of my own work. Then later, as I mentioned in the past, provide prints for clients and so forth. I may also sell originals of my pieces too. One of the ones I’d really like to do is of my demon tree guy that has kind of been my calling card as of last year.
The past two weeks I’ve been working on what would be considered a secret project for a client. So that took up alot of my time. I haden’t been able to post anything, work on other clients or my own project. I learned some valuable lessons these last two weeks, these I will keep to my self.
I’m going to try and create a mailing list within the next few days so I can keep clients and contacts in the loop of what’s going on. It’s been on the top of my to-do list for the past 3 months but I never got around to it. Now that I can find some time, I am. So leave me some email addresses! Things I’ll include in it are monthly specials and sales, when prints are available and any updates about my comics as well. Also I may throw in an incentive for those who do sign up. Discounts perhaps, give aways, I don’t know yet. Like the one I’m starting where anyone who friends me on Facebook will get a 5% discount.
I’m getting a new scanner this week, so excited to have a large format one finally! It’s the Brother MFC-6490 cw (picture below). Not only does it scan in 11X17 but also is an all in one with two paper trays, a screen AND I can put SD cards in it. So stoked!
After realizing how difficult it’d be to change the domain names, sites, user names and so on I decided to scrap the name change idea. Plus, I hate using the word “designs” in anything I do anyways. I don’t consider my self a designer, people who make drape patterns for Target are designers. I feel it’s a pretentious title anyways, illustrator sounds more humble to me. I decided to just create a new blog/site for the comic stuff which I will post on this blog too but I will put on there too.
Tuesday night at 1:59 am I finished the script for the first volume of Pariah Savior. I learned alot while doing it, like instead of writing a description of the scene I will make a sketch and then put the dialogue down. I also am going to try and write the next one on my computer, I liked doing it on paper this time but it’s going to be a pain to transfer and I think I have arthritis now and my neck has been stiff for a week straight.
Tonight I’m going to start mapping out the scenes on some newsprint. I’m going to do them in sections by issue. Then when I’m done doing that edit the dialogue if need be, I like the scenes, may change a few though.
